When you don’t have a stable home, it’s hard to take care of your health. When you can’t take care of your health, the likeliness you’ll end up in the ER or hospital multiple times a year goes up 8X.

It makes sense, right? When you’re exposed to abuse, the elements, substances and/or other factors, your quality of life, health outcomes, and even life expectancy takes a nosedive.

UnitedHealth Group recognizes this, investing $500M into housing 100s of their most vulnerable members. But this is just the tip of the spear. With thankfulness, I can share that they’ve taken samaritan on as part of their strategy through Techstars. I’m in Minneapolis for 3 months to figure out how we can deliver human & financial capital to help 1000s of their Medicaid members find social & physical homes across the country.

Cracking into UHG’s accelerator is a Top 5 moment for the Samaritan team. The company generates $660 million in revenue… everyday (yes, everyday). And yet, their margins are slimmer than you think. Homelessness is not good for your health. If we can help UHG help their most vulnerable members into homes, it’ll be a win for everyone. We’ve met with 110 UHG / healthcare execs so far. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
